Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)

THATS RIGHT! I ALSO REVIEW OLD FILMS!

Black Comedy’s are hard to do, you need to have the right level of death/destruction with the right level of comedy, because if you don’t it would just look like a stupid film. Grosse Pointe Blank does not look like a stupid comedy, it is a well made, funny film. John Cusack plays Martin Blank, a hitman for hire, who has no problem with revieling his secret, infact he does it to everybody he meets. This is a nice twist on the normal “Don’t tell anyone…… oh everyone’s found out” storylines of other films. I had some reservations about whether Cusack would be the right guy to play a ‘hit-man’ but he fits the role perfectly. In the final sequence he is outstanding in a role that is obviously not a normal one for him. The relationship onscreen he has with Minnie Driver, the girl he stood up on prom night, is brilliant. Fast paced talking makes it interesting to see whats going to happen. Conflicted to the idea of taking him back, Driver switches between being in love, to hating everything about Blank. Dan Aykroyd plays a rival hitman who is either trying to get Blank to join a ‘Union’ or kill him. Again the final sequence shows Aykroyd’s skill as an actor, but he seems to blink more than shoot. (Watch it, you will know what i mean). Final point, the soundtrack is a killer (no pun intended) which makes this a highly enjoyable film.
