The Fuhrer is attending the premiere
Inglourious Basterds (2009): So this is a film about Jews killing Nazi members, not a conventional cinema going experience at all then. In all fairness it is a Quentin Tarantino film though, so this kind of twist on history is expected. And what a twist it is! From start to finish this is a shot by shot masterpiece by the director of today. The first scene, or ‘Chapter 1’, deserves a ‘best film’ Oscar in itself. It is a fantastic opening and makes your whole body go cold as Col. Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) acts sickly sweet to get exactly what he wants. His performance throughout the film makes it obvious why he won best supporting actor this year at the Oscars. I cannot rate his performance highly enough, and would recommend this film just for Waltz’s performance. However there are other notable performances in this film, especially Mr. Pitt who, believe it or not, adds comic relief to an otherwise sombre film. His Italian accent has my in stitches every time I see it. He has some great lines throughout the film, like; “You probably heard we ain’t in the prisoner-takin’ business; we in the killin’ Nazi business. And cousin, business is a-boomin”. This was my second time watching it, and I must admit, I enjoyed it alot more the second time. If you do have chance then watch it once, leave it a few months and watch it again. I promise you will enjoy it alot more. I highly enjoyed the film and can’t recommend it enough just to witness Waltz’s performance.
