If it bleeds we can remake it.

Predators (2010) - Recent circumstances meant that I had a few hours to kill on my own in meadowhall, so I decided to see the latest release. Seen as I had missed the last showing I went to see ‘Predators’ instead. Being a fan for a few years I had been waiting for this latest offering of a green blood-bath for a while, but after reading recent reviews I was not expecting an epic. I was very pleased with the story, not taking us to the Predator’s home planet like recent reports had suggested, but to a game preserve on a completely different planet. 8 mercenaries from varying backgrounds are dropped from the sky, waking up in free fall, and land on a Amazonian planet. Sounds cool huh? Well it is, very. The characters aren’t likable at all unfortunately, especially Adrian Brody who ditches his bumbly every-man for a tough hard man, which doesn’t suit him. He reminded me of a cross between Phil Mitchell and ‘Where’s Wally’. The only saving ‘grace’ was Topher Grace, who, mostly, plays a very likable character. Being a fan of Grace’s other work I was pleased to see a hefty part given to him, which he deals with and produces a great character I will remember. Danny Trejo is not used to full effect and it’s a real shame, same with Lawrence Fishburne.  Credit where’s it due however Nimrod Antal has done well here, with some shots that were amazing. One shot that really made me sit up was following Topher Grace and others off a cliff into water showing them flipping and waving until they land. This is brilliantly done and gives the characters more human qualities compared to the normal pencil dive every actor does when they fall into water. Towards the ending it reminded me of the original, but i was very pleased with the ending, giving me something i didnt expect. Overall a not bad outing, which shows everyone, and everything, does have a human side….

3/5 (For Topher Grace, The shot over the cliff and the ending)
